ABOUT HANES CHURCH
Established in 1916, Hanes Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church was the first CME Church in Winston-Salem, NC. With the vision of community leaders and the generosity of Mr. P.H. Hanes, the church was built at its current location, becoming a pillar of faith and service in the city.
Over the past 106 years, Hanes Memorial has remained steadfast through challenges and societal changes, consistently serving as a beacon of hope, faith, and community. The church has welcomed generations of families, hosted notable leaders, and supported impactful initiatives, including recovery and outreach programs.
As proud members of the Seventh Episcopal District under Bishop James B. Walker and Presiding Elder Faye R. Houston, Hanes Memorial continues to thrive under the leadership of its active pastor, James Tillman. While honoring its rich history, the congregation looks forward to an even brighter future in service to God and the community.
